On February 23, 2023 CDEL honored and celebrated its Annual Award Winners and its remarkable accomplishments during the past year at its “Light Up the Loop” annual fundraiser. Chicago Bar Association President Timothy S. Tomasik, Partner at Tomasik Kotin Kasserman, and David J. Malliband, Managing Partner at Baker McKenzie LLP’s Chicago Office, served as Honorary Co-Chairs of the event. CDEL Board Member Andrew Lillis, Partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, served as Winter Awards Benefit Event Chair and Terri Ahrens, Interim Associate General Counsel at US Foods, Inc. and Immediate Past President of CDEL’s Board of Directors, served as Benefit Vice Chair. Created in 2012 by Theresa Jaffe, CDEL Board President and President of Theresa Jaffe Consulting, CDEL’s “Light Up the Loop” Winter Awards Benefit has become CDEL’s signature fundraising event providing a wonderful winter networking destination for Chicagoland’s legal, business, judicial and governmental communities. Baker McKenzie LLP has graciously hosted the event since its inception.

Baker McKenzie LLP attorneys Shane Kelly, Addison Braendel, and Crofton Kelly, and Stephen S. Phalen from The Law Offices of Stephen S. Phalen, LLC were awarded the 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award for their representation of a CDEL client who experienced elder financial abuse at the hands of a family member. Astellas Pharma US received the 2023 Partner of the Year Award for their pro bono commitment to CDEL's workshop programs. Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough was awarded the 2023 CDEL Impact Award for launching a new Help Desk within the Recording Division of her office with CDEL as a partner.
