CDEL's Young Professionals Board held its annual Trivia Night on Tuesday, September 20th at The Village Tap. We had a great turnout and lots of fun! It was so wonderful to be together with YPB members, CDEL staff, sponsors, and CDEL supporters. We could not do what we do without your dedication and support of CDEL. Whether you attended, purchased a raffle ticket, sponsored, or donated, thank you for supporting CDEL and its programs. A special thank you to The Village Tap and our Trivia Hosts CDEL AmeriCorps VISTA Carmel Companiott and Alexandra Gomez for such a fun night! We can't wait for Trivia Night in 2023! |

Former CDEL Office Administrator Crystal Huizar Reflects on Her Time at CDEL |
Crystal Huizar was CDEL's Office Administrator and Paralegal since 2017 where she was responsible for CDEL's day to day office operations. She also performed routine bookkeeping duties, and worked closely with the Winter Awards Benefit Committee. She began her legal career in 2016 as a paralegal intern with CDEL while she was a second-year student in the paralegal associates program at Wilbur Wright College. In the same year, Crystal joined CDEL as Screening Coordinator/Paralegal for the Senior Legal Assistance Clinic (SLAC) Program. She assisted SLAC by screening and scheduling clients for the clinics, as well as updating their files post-appointment.
In reflecting on her time at CDEL, Crystal had this to say: "My time at CDEL was instrumental in shaping who I am today. I am saddened for the regular time I will no longer have with the people I so loved working with, but honored to have served CDEL and its mission to our community. Now I am entering a new phase in which I am overjoyed to explore. I am excited to see all that CDEL will accomplish in the future." Please join all of us at CDEL in wishing Crystal well in her next chapter! |

Welcome CDEL's Newest Staff Member Chandler Wright! |
Chandler Wright joined CDEL in August as a 711 Licensed Law Graduate. Upon passing the Bar this fall, Chandler will become CDEL's newest Staff Attorney. Chandler will focus her time at CDEL on the Housing Preservation Project (HPP), in addition to supporting CDEL’s Early Resolution Program team with consumer debt and eviction matters. In her capacity as HPP Coordinator, Chandler collaborates with community partners and pro bono attorneys to provide legal assistance to Cook County homeowners, including assisting with succession planning, title correction, certain property tax matters, foreclosure and building code violation defense. She first joined CDEL in August 2021 as a Kott Scholar during her third year of law school. After graduating from law school, she joined CDEL full time in August of 2022.
Chandler on why she is excited to join CDEL: "I am eager to get out into the community and educate Cook County seniors about having a plan for their homes. Homeownership is one of the most important ways that a family can build generational wealth. Through programs such as the Housing Preservation Project, families can ensure that they have succession plans in place. I look forward to being a liaison between cost-burdened Cook County residents in need of critical legal services and pro bono partners looking to give back to their communities.”
