CDEL Holds a POA Outreach in the 22nd Chicago Police District |

| CDEL Staff Attorney Marlo Pahl, was welcomed by Chicago Police 22nd District's seniors for an informational presentation on Powers of Attorney. With over 20 seniors in attendance, the group had a lively discussion about Advanced Planning and CDEL's legal services. CDEL looks forward to collaborating with Chicago Police District 22's seniors at an upcoming workshop to draft and execute their Powers of Attorney!

CDEL Volunteer Featured in Issue of the CBA Record! |
CDEL volunteer attorney, Stacia Frens was featured in the September/October issue of the CBA Record to celebrate Pro Bono Month! Stacia initially started as a CDEL volunteer through the CBF Justice Entrepreneurs Project (JEP) and has continued to volunteer her time and expertise to CDEL to this day. In this article, Stacia talked about her involvement in guardianship cases and her experience working alongside CDEL Senior Attorney, Cheryl Lipton. This experience showed her saw first-hand how important pro bono work can be.
This article also features CDEL Client Maxine who came to Stacia and CDEL for help in getting guardianship over her son. She had this to say about Stacia and the guardianship process: “Having Stacia with me made me feel confident; she explained things in a way that I could easily understand. CDEL and Stacia took the time to explain everything and helped me with all the technology needed to complete the guardianship process.” |

DePaul Law Students Join CDEL for an Estate Planning Workshop |

Six DePaul University College of Law students and their clinical instructor, Shaye L. Loughlin, (Executive Director for Center for Public Interest Law) from DePaul University’s Croak Community Clinic: Civil Legal Services joined CDEL Staff Attorney Tiffany Clements at New Pisgah Haven Homes for an estate-planning workshop. The law students worked with CDEL clients over the phone with creating estate plans before executing seven documents in person on Wednesday.

A client had this to say, “The DePaul students were very patient and supportive. They seemed like they did this all the time with their comprehension, instead of just being students. I appreciate them. They made me feel very comfortable.”

During Pro Bono Week, CDEL Senior Attorney and Pro Bono Coordinator Cheryl Lipton joined a group of panelists at the Chicago Bar Association for a presentation about “Getting Personal with Pro Bono Opportunities.” Cheryl and the other panelists spoke about pro bono opportunities available for volunteers to take part in. Volunteers spoke about the rewarding experiences they have had in pro bono. CDEL’s Young Professionals Board (YPB) is currently accepting applications for new members! CDEL’s YPB is made up of young lawyers and other allied professionals in Cook County who want to become more involved in public interest law and wish to make a difference in the lives of our community’s most vulnerable and underrepresented residents.
