CDEL November 2021 Newsletter
Remember CDEL for Giving Tuesday 2021! Image Description: A picture of CDEL Legal Director Michael Stone (left) and CDEL Volunteer Mary Quigg (right) assisting a client in their car on top of a light green border. This year, Giving Tuesday is November 30th. Maximize your impact to CDEL by giving between Monday, November 22nd and Friday, December 3rd to have your donations matched up to $15,000. CDEL is grateful to receive these matching funds from the RRF Foundation on Aging as well as some very generous CDEL Governing Board Members again for 2021.
This Giving Tuesday, CDEL is featuring CDEL Client Isabella. Isabella lives on Chicago's Southwest side where she lives with her son. Over the years, Isabella has had many legal issues over the years. Earlier this year, she found CDEL and has been able to obtain guardianship over her son, get estate planning documents executed for herself, and is in the process of finalizing a long sought divorce.
Stay tuned to your emails and go over to our social media over the next two weeks to learn more about CDEL Client Isabella and her truly inspiring story.

CDEL's Early Resolution Program Helps Client Stay in Their Home Image Description: Logo depicting text that includes Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt. Also includes graphics of hands shaking and a graphic of a house. With the help of the Cook County court-based rental assistance program, CDEL was able to help a woman battling cancer get her eviction case dismissed. This woman fell behind on rent and utilities after she had to leave her job due to the risk of COVID-19 on her health. With the help of CDEL, she found out that her rental assistance application was approved and covered her full unpaid rent and utilities the day before a major surgery as part of her cancer treatment. She was so thankful to CDEL for assisting her in this process because she had nowhere to go and could now focus on her health and unpacking her boxes.
The Early Resolution Program (ERP) is in full-swing at CDEL. In November, CDEL's ERP launched its Hardship Dismissal Pro Bono Program in collaboration with the Chicago Paralegal Association. This Program will allow CDEL to help more clients get their collections cases dismissed based on their financial situation. On the eviction side of the program, the new Chicago and Cook County court-based rental assistance programs are enabling CDEL to help more clients resolve their eviction cases.
