Marlo Pahl is the Community Staff Attorney for CDEL. In this role, they provide estate planning, guardianship, and eviction support to seniors and people with disabilities in the Auburn-Gresham and Austin neighborhoods.

Marlo began their litigation experience as a 711 law clerk at felony trial with the Cook County Public Defender's office. Marlo handled SSI and SSDI appeals as an associate of the Law Offices of Barry Schultz from 2013 to 2015. They were Legal Director & Staff Attorney of the TransLife Care Program of Chicago House & Social Service Agency from 2015 to 2018, where they lead the program’s policy and advocacy efforts and represented trans and gender non-conforming clients in criminal and civil matters. While working at Chicago House, Marlo received training on trauma-informed care, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based public health interventions. Marlo wrote and teaches a class on Trauma-Informed Lawyering at DePaul College of Law. Most recently, Marlo was Lead Attorney of the Westside Justice Center's civil legal clinic from 2019 to 2022 where they represented clients in domestic violence matters, criminal record sealing and expungement, housing (primarily eviction defense), and public benefits. They have facilitated CLE trainings and speaker events on transgender rights, cultural humility, and trauma-informed legal advocacy with the Chicago Bar Association, the Creating Change Conference, the WPATH Conference, John Marshall Law School, Northwestern Law School, and DePaul College of Law.

Marlo received their Philosophy degree from the University of Michigan in 2009 and graduated cum laude with a Public Interest Certificate from DePaul University College of Law in 2013.
