Welcome Marlo Pahl and Saniya Ashiqali to CDEL!

Join us in welcoming CDEL's newest Staff Attorney, Marlo Pahl, to CDEL's team! Marlo is the Community Staff Attorney for CDEL. In this role, they provide estate planning, guardianship, and eviction support to seniors and people with disabilities in the Auburn-Gresham and Austin neighborhoods. 

"I'm excited to join CDEL's incredible team and am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving community members on the west and south sides of Chicago. I hope my knowledge and passion for trauma informed praxis will add to CDEL's proven track-record of providing high quality, client-centered, free legal services."

Please welcome CDEL's newest paralegal, Saniya Ashiqali to CDEL's team! Saniya Ashiqali is a part-time paralegal providing support for CDEL's Early Resolution Program (ERP). 

Saniya is a first-generation American and the first in her family to receive a higher education. Helping those with limited resources is a passion for her and she hopes to one day become an immigration attorney. 

"I am so excited to be joining CDEL’s ERP team. It is a truly gratifying experience to be able to help those with limited resources. I hope to make life a little easier for people and provide support in any way that I am able to." 

Kirkland & Ellis LLP & Syntellis Performance Solutions Volunteer for POA Workshop

Volunteer attorneys from Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Syntellis Performance Solutions joined CDEL at the Levy Senior Center in Evanston for one of our Power of Attorney (POA) workshops. At the workshop, 9 seniors were able to draft 35 documents, including Powers of Attorney for Healthcare, Powers of Attorney for Property and Living Wills.

One CDEL client said, “I am full of gratitude for this exceptional service which has inspired me to complete the remainder of my end of life planning.”

CDEL Partners with Austin Coming Together for CDEL HPP Workshop

CDEL partnered with Austin Coming Together for a Housing Preservation Project (HPP) Workshop. We were also joined by law student volunteers from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. Five of our volunteers helped five CDEL clients in drafting and executing Transfer on Death Instruments (TODI's), Power of Attorney Documents, and Wills.
