CDEL Supervising Attorney and Client Featured on FOX 32 Chicago |
This month, CDEL Client Jeffren Dudley and CDEL Supervising Attorney, Dana Harbaugh were featured on Fox 32 Chicago. This story features Mr. Dudley, a comic book lover who found a community at Keith's Komix in Schaumburg. After losing two of his children and suffering health problems that made him need to step back from his jobs, Mr. Dudley got behind on his rent and other bills. To avoid being evicted, he came to CDEL for help.
Through the help of the Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt (CCLAHD) Early Resolution Program and CDEL Supervising Attorney Dana Harbaugh, he was able to get rental assistance for the majority of what he owed. In order to stay in his home, the landlord required Mr. Dudley to come up with thousands of dollars in a short period of time. That's when longtime friend Keith Anderson of Keith’s Komix and fellow comic book enthusiasts rallied together to donate enough money to allow Mr. Dudley to keep his home.
Thank you to CDEL Governing Board Member Helen Lucaitis for working hard on behalf of CDEL to get this pitched and to FOX 32 Chicago for sharing Mr. Dudley’s truly inspiring story! |

CDEL Featured in Chicago Tribune Article about TODIs |
CDEL was recently featured in a Chicago Tribune article that explored the difficulties of probate and stressed the importance of Transfer on Death Instruments or TODIs. Often, people live in homes passed down through the generations, but the public record does not reflect that they have an interest in the property. CDEL works hard to educate and advocate for TODIs to preserve intergenerational wealth for our clients and to ensure their ability to age in place.
CDEL's Executive Director Caroline Manley was quoted in the article: “Having these succession plans in place is a benefit, obviously, for the family. The other great benefit of making sure that communities are aware of the importance of these documents and getting them done is that it improves the entire community.” |
CDEL was also featured in a report about Transfer on Death Instruments (TODIs) from the Institute for Housing Studies (IHS) at DePaul University that inspired the Chicago Tribune article. The report, “Transfer on Death Instruments and Their Role in Estate Planning in Cook County”, goes into detail about how Cook County seniors can and should utilize the power of estate planning and TODI’s. CDEL is a proud partner and advocate for TODIs and the importance they can have for families for generations to come.
CDEL is proud to be featured alongside some of our fellow community partners! |
