CDEL Celebrates our Dedicated Volunteers!
CDEL Celebrates Our Dedicated Volunteers April is National Volunteer Month and this week (April 17 - 23rd), is National Volunteer Week. CDEL could not do the work it does without all of the attorneys, paralegals, law students, and volunteers dedicating their time and expertise to CDEL and its mission. In 2021, over 300 volunteers participated in CDEL trainings and representations.
Please join us in giving a big thank you to CDEL's volunteers!
CDEL Volunteers in the Community In the spirit of National Volunteer Week, on Thursday CDEL hosted its first in-person Mobile Adult Guardianship Workshop since COVID. Ten volunteers from Baker McKenzie participated in the program. The volunteers assisted 16 families at Southside Occupational High School to prepare guardianship petitions for young adults who live with a permanent disability and are transitioning to adulthood upon their eighteenth birthdays.
CDEL Pro Bono Coordinator Cheryl Lipton trained the attorneys prior to meetings with families. Some of the Baker McKenzie volunteers commented on how easy everything was to work with because of the resources CDEL and Cheryl had provided. "It all went very smoothly and was very helpful" - CDEL Client Image Description: Baker McKenzie volunteers sitting with a client at Thursday's Mobile Adult Guardianship Workshop. CDEL's Mobile Adult Guardianship Program is run by Cheryl Lipton and is designed to educate and assist families with children who live with a permanent disability who are transitioning to adulthood upon their 18th birthdays. If you are interested in attending a training or workshop like this one, consider volunteering with us! CDEL is always looking for volunteers for our many programs. CDEL offers volunteer and internship opportunities to college students, law students, and volunteer attorneys in a number of practice areas and settings. We can use everyone's talents and have a project for every skill set and time commitment.
