CDEL Partners with Salesforce and Golan Christie Taglia LLP for Guardianship Workshop

CDEL Staff Attorney Cheryl Lipton was joined by volunteers from Salesforce and Golan Christie Taglia LLP for a guardianship workshop at Southside Occupational Academy High School in Chicago. This school serves as a transition center for students aged 16-22 years with disabilities. The volunteers, including CDEL Young Professionals Board (YPB) Member Leynee Flores, were able to help 18 families in the guardianship process.

CDEL Holds Monthly Help Desk with Cook County Clerk's Office

On the third Thursday of every month, CDEL Staff Attorney Chandler Wright holds a free help desk for Cook County residents at the Cook County Clerk’s office located in City Hall. The goal of the help desk is to provide advice about common property related questions including deeds, transfer on death instruments, and tenancy affidavits.

This month, Chandler saw 8 clients and helped them with drafting documents on the spot. Many of the clients that come in to see CDEL simply want to ensure that their homes stay in their families after their passing. Many speak about how other family members did not have plans in place, and how they wanted their loved ones to avoid the often expensive and lengthy process of probate. In under an hour, clients could complete their documents and then walk to the cashier to officially record their documents with the Cook County Clerk. 

Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough was awarded CDEL’s Impact Award at the 2023 Winter Awards Benefit this past February for her work in establishing this help desk for Cook County residents. You can watch the video here: 2023 CDEL Impact Award Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough

CDEL Acknowledges National Healthcare Decisions Day 

April 16th was National Healthcare Decisions Day. This day was created to bring awareness to the importance of advance care planning for healthcare. 

CDEL works hard to educate our clients about how crucial advance care planning can be for them and their loved ones. We assists hundreds of clients every year with end of life planning documents so they can live in peace knowing everything is taken care of. 

CDEL regularly holds Power of Attorney Workshops for low income seniors in the community to help them ensure their wishes are met. CDEL representatives help craft and execute documents including durable Powers of Attorney for Healthcare and Property and Illinois Living Will Declarations.
