CDEL Secures Medically Necessary Refrigerator Replacement for Client Evelyn is a Type 1 Diabetic and came to CDEL needing assistance in replacing a broken refrigerator that was necessary for her medical care. She had not had a functioning fridge since July 2021 and couldn't safely store her medication and food. After unsuccessfully trying to work with the landlord herself to get it replaced, she called CDEL for help.
Using the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Act, CDEL Staff Attorney Lissette Ortegon helped Evelyn formally request reasonable accommodations to the landlord. Lissette and Evelyn were able to successfully ensure that Evelyn's refrigerator finally got replaced. She was so grateful to finally have a functioning refrigerator that she could safely store her medication in.
"Words cannot express the joy I feel. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" - CDEL Client Evelyn
CDEL in the Community Image Description: CDEL and PBN volunteer attorney Karen Boyd working with a CDEL client at a recent community clinic. CDEL's work could not be done without the volunteers that dedicate their valuable time and experiences to assist CDEL's clients. We are happy to have the volunteer attorneys from our longtime community partner, Pro Bono Network (PBN), back with us at our in person clinics.
It was so great to have longtime CDEL and PBN volunteer attorney Karen Boyd assisting clients at Pathlights in Palos Heights to counsel CDEL's clients. Thank you to our Community Partners!
In March, CDEL staff and volunteers like Karen, were busy staffing our community clinics. CDEL served over 40 clients in March at both our remote and in person community clinics.
Thank you to our community partners listed below, for allowing us to continue to conveniently and accessibly serve our clients in the community they live.
